As we edge closer to the 2024 Olympics, excitement is building within the gymnastics community. Here at The Gym Spot, we are committed to keeping you updated on all things gymnastics. With the Australian representatives being named last week, let’s take a closer look at the talented athletes who will be representing Australia in Paris.
Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) Team:
- Emily Whitehead (23): Returning for her second Summer Games, Emily hails from Victoria, where she trained at Grips Gymnastics during her junior years and later at Waverley Gymnastics Club as a senior.
- Emma Nedov (28): Making a remarkable comeback after 3.5 years away from the sport, Emma was born in NSW. She started at Epping YMCA and now trains at Melbourne Gymnastics Centre.
- Kate McDonald (23): This Melbourne-born gymnast trained at MLC in her junior years and at Cheltenham Youth Club in her senior years.
- Ruby Pass (17): Ruby, born in NSW, has trained at Premier Gymnastics Club throughout both her junior and senior years.
- Breanna Scott (22): Starting at Gymnastics Dance and Tumble as a junior and later moving to Waverley Gymnastics Club for her senior training, Breanna completes the WAG team.
Men’s Artistic Gymnastics (MAG):
Unfortunately, Australia’s MAG team did not qualify for a team spot at the 2024 Paris Olympics. However, Jesse Moore achieved a high enough ranking to compete individually.
- Jesse Moore (21): From South Australia, Jesse trained at Gym Jets in his junior years and GA NTC in his senior years.
TRP:
- Brock Batty (17): Brock hails from Victoria and has trained at Cheltenham Youth Club for both his junior and senior years.
Rhythmic Gymnastics Team:
- Alexandra Kiroi-Bogatyreva (22): Born in Wellington, NZ, Alexandra moved to Melbourne as a baby. She trained at Prahran RG as a junior and Le Ray Gymnastics Academy as a senior.
- Lidiia Iakovleva (20): Originally from Russia, Lidiia moved to Australia at seven. She trained at Petrozavodsk Rhythmic Gymnastics in Russia and Aspire Gymnastics Academy in Brisbane as a senior.
- Saskia Broedelet (20): Residing in QLD, Saskia trained at Premier Gymnastics as a junior and Aspire Gymnastics Academy as a senior.
- Phoebe Learmont (19): Phoebe trained at Ywest in her junior years before moving to Aspire Gymnastics Academy for her senior training.
- Emmanouela Frroku (16): Born in Greece and now living in Brisbane, Emmanouela started at OGIRA Athens and now trains at Aspire Gymnastics Academy.
- Jessica Weintraub (17): From Victoria, Jessica trained at Prahran Rhythmic Gymnastics as a junior and now trains at Aspire Gymnastics Academy as a senior.
